There's too much focus on national politics. It's in local offices, like the St. Lawrence County Legislature, where most decisions are made that impact our day to day lives. For too long, Republicans in the County Legislature have ignored their constituents. They let your tax bill creep up, hoard county funds, and refuse to do anything to improve your lives. It seems like they've given up on making things better or worse, they just don't care! Well, I do. It's time for a change.

It was a big change for our young family, but I was comforted both by the people we met, and by fond memories of my own childhood of coming up to the St. Lawrence River with my dad to fish every summer.I expected many things when we made that move. I expected to do the hard work of stabilizing a strained rural medical system. I expected to watch my kids build friendships as my wife and I led their Cub Scout Dens and church youth groups. I expected to become a bit of a better fisherman.What I didn't expect was to find a true home. But that's what the North Country has been to me for the past two decades: Home.Throughout my life, I've been a lot of things. Father. Husband. Doctor. Hospital Administrator. Fisherman. I am not a politician. But after a long, thoughtful discussion with my wife, the decision became clear. I am not comfortable with the current leadership's decision making process, or the direction in which they are taking St. Lawrence County. I've spent my career caring for patients and families right here in our community. I've sat with people in their hardest moments, listened to their concerns, and worked with them to find real solutions. And what I've seen--more and more--is that families are doing everything right, but still feel like they are falling behind. The cost of living keeps going up. Groceries cost more. Property taxes feel heavier. People are losing access to healthcare. For too many people, it's getting downright impossible to get ahead, let alone stay ahead.That's why I'm running for County Legislator. I believe that local government should be focused on one simple idea: making life better--and more affordable-- for people who live here.I'm not a career politician. I'm a doctor. When a patient comes in, I don't jump to conclusions and decide what I think before we even get started. I listen. I look at the facts. I figure out exactly what is causing the problem and then I focus on solutions that work.That's exactly how local government should operate, and that's what I will do as County Legislator for District 3.

Everyone is feeling the pinch these days. Gas, groceries, healthcare, car and home repairs, all just keep getting more expensive. The only thing that doesn't seem to grow is all of our paychecks! There's a lot we can do at the county level to take the strain off of your wallet and help you breathe a little bit easier. When I'm in the County Legislature, I won't just keep your tax rate the same, I'll advocate to save you real dollars.I'll work with New York State to establish tax holidays on gas and sales tax. I'll make sure we're properly enforcing the bed tax to benefit the entire community. I'll reach across the aisle and come up with creative solutions to make sure you end up with more money in your pocket, while the county remains financially stable.

From the gas pump to the grocery store, we're all feeling the pinch. I'll advocate for tax holidays on groceries, gas, and cell phone bills when the county fund balance sits above a sustainable level.

Tax Holidays and Inflation Relief

Cutting essential services has impacts that reverberate far beyond a spreadsheet. We need to take care of each other more, not less.I'll restore funding for home health services, substance abuse treatment programs, and mental health services. I'll fight for Medicaid recipients being impacted by impending federal cuts, and make sure that none of our neighbors fall through the cracks, because in St. Lawrence County we take care of our own.

As a doctor, I know firsthand what good medical care looks like. Years of cuts to mental health care, home health, and substance abuse programs have left our friends and families less healthy and less safe.

Imagine how much less Congress would get done if every single member sat on every single committee. That's what's happening now in St. Lawrence County. We're the only nearby county who does things this way!We can easily improve the efficiency of local government with focused, right-sized, bipartisan committees to address our most pressing issues.Beyond that, we can do a better job coordinating across the municipal, state, and federal levels. I'll make sure that St. Lawrence County takes advantage of every resource at our disposal to make your life better. At the end of the day, I'll make local government work better for working people while keeping it transparent and accountable.

Inefficient government can't deliver for St. Lawrence County. I'll pursue simple committee reforms to un-muck the gears.

Every year, St. Lawrence County residents pay more and more in taxes. Every year, the county's fund balance grows. And every year, Republicans in the County Legislature refuse to do anything with it to benefit their constituents. Worse than that, they keep cutting services that our families and neighbors rely on.The county fund balance is currently over $70,000,000. I believe we should responsibly use that money to improve the lives of St. Lawrence County citizens, address the affordability crisis, and restore essential services.It's your money. It should be used to benefit you.

St Lawrence County has grown an excess fund balance of $70,000,000. It's time that we invested more of that money to benefit our community.

Responsible Use of County Funds

Our current County Legislators don't seem to care about what their constituents think. They've made up their mind on an issue long before they hear from anyone, and they base their decisions on national partisan politics, not what's best for all of us. In St. Lawrence County, we can do better. I don't think our local politicians should be focused on national culture wars, not when we've got so much work to do right here in our community. I'll work to keep the County Legislature relentlessly focused on the real, local issues that impact you day to day. I'll advocate for good policy, no matter what side of the aisle it comes from.

Current County Legislators care more about Donald Trump's issue-of-the-day than they do about their local constituents. I'll stop the political theatre, reach across the aisle, and get to work making our community better.
